2. Collection and Storage of Personal Data, as well as the Nature and Purpose of their Use
a) When visiting the website
When you visit our website www.tuma-africa.org, the browser used on your device automatically sends information to the server of our website. This information is temporarily stored in a so-called log file. The following information is collected without your intervention and stored until automated deletion:
- IP address of the requesting computer
- Date and time of access
- Name and URL of the retrieved file
- Website from which access is made (referrer URL)
- Browser used and, if applicable, the operating system of your computer, as well as the name of your access provider
Purpose of data processing: The data mentioned above are processed by us for the following purposes:
- Ensuring a smooth connection to the website
- Ensuring comfortable use of our website
- Evaluating system security and stability
- For further administrative purposes
b) When contacting us via email
If you contact us (e.g., via email), your details, including the contact information you provide there, will be stored for the purpose of processing the request and for follow-up questions.
Legal basis: Art. 6 Abs. 1 S. 1 lit. b GDPR (initiation of a contract) or Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f GDPR.
c) When using our contact form
- If you use our contact form, the data you enter there (e.g., name, email address, possibly phone number and message) will be transmitted to us and stored to process your inquiry and for possible follow-up questions.
- Data processing is based on Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. b GDPR (initiation of a contract) or Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f GDPR (legitimate interest in effective processing of the inquiry).
- Please note that the transmission of data via email may be unencrypted and thus potentially poses a security risk. Please do not submit confidential information via the form.
- We will not pass on the data you transmit without your consent and will delete them as soon as they are no longer required for the intended purpose – subject to legal retention obligations.
3. Social Media Presence
We maintain publicly accessible profiles on social networks. Specifically, these are:

We operate these profiles to communicate with active users there and to inform about our activities and projects. Please note that when you visit our social media profiles, data (e.g., personal information, IP address) may be collected from you and processed for market research and advertising purposes. This is usually done by the respective platform operators. Processing may also take place outside the European Union, which may make it more difficult to enforce your rights.
The privacy policies and terms of use of the respective platform operators apply in addition to our privacy policy. As operators of our social media profiles, we generally have no direct influence on the scope and type of data collected and processed by the respective platforms. We use the functions of the platforms available to us to present our content and interact with users.
Note on joint controllership: In certain cases, there is joint controllership according to Art. 26 GDPR between us and the respective social media platform operator for the processing of personal data within the scope of our social media presence. Information on such joint controllership agreements can be found in the privacy policies of the respective platform.
Your rights: Also in relation to our social media profiles, you have the data subject rights mentioned in this privacy policy (right to information, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, withdrawal of consent, complaint to a supervisory authority). To assert your rights against the platform operators, please contact them directly, as we do not always have full control over data processing on these platforms. Of course, we will gladly support you as far as possible.
4. Data Transfer
Your personal data will not be transferred to third parties for purposes other than those listed below. We will only disclose your personal data to third parties if:
- You have given your express consent in accordance with Art. 6 Abs. 1 S. 1 lit. a GDPR,
- The disclosure is necessary in accordance with Art. 6 Abs. 1 S. 1 lit. f GDPR for the assertion, exercise, or defense of legal claims,
- There is a legal obligation for the transfer, as well as
- It is legally permissible and, according to Art. 6 Abs. 1 S. 1 lit. b GDPR, necessary for the processing of contractual relationships with you.
5. Data Subject Rights
You have the right:
- To request information about your personal data processed by us in accordance with Art. 15 GDPR,
- To demand the immediate rectification of inaccurate or completion of your personal data stored by us in accordance with Art. 16 GDPR,
- To request the erasure of your data stored by us in accordance with Art. 17 GDPR,
- To request the restriction of the processing of your personal data in accordance with Art. 18 GDPR,
- To receive your personal data in a structured, common, and machine-readable format in accordance with Art. 20 GDPR,
- To withdraw your consent once given at any time in accordance with Art. 7 Abs. 3 GDPR,
- To lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in accordance with Art. 77 GDPR.
6. Data Security
During your website visit, we use the widespread SSL (Secure Socket Layer) procedure in conjunction with the highest encryption level supported by your browser. We also employ appropriate technical and organizational security measures.
7. Dispute Resolution
TU eMpower Africa e.V. is a non-profit, non-commercial association in the sense of §§ 21 ff. BGB (German Civil Code). We pursue exclusively idealistic goals and do not generate any profits from our activities. Therefore, we are not obligated to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board within the meaning of the Consumer Dispute Resolution Act (VSBG), and we do not participate voluntarily. 8. Validity and Amendments to this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy is currently valid and was last updated in July 2025. Due to the further development of our website or due to changed legal or official requirements, it may become necessary to amend this Privacy Policy.
